- A member of the mint family native to East Asia, Cat Whiskers is a small to medium-sized leafy shrub that reaches mature heights of 2 to 3 feet. Its an interesting and versatile plant that works well as a mass planting, in mixed perennial beds, or as a potted plant, making a great background for wildlife habitat gardens.
- This plant produces unusual, nectar-rich spikes of lavender flowers with long, wispy, whisker-like stamens that give the plant its name. The unique flowers appear on new growth and continue to bloom in repeating cycles throughout the warm season, attracting butterflies, hummingbirds, and other wildlife.
- Care: The best permanent planting location is in full sun to lightly dappled afternoon shade. Plant in fertile, well-draining, soil. Provide supplemental irrigation until well established and during dry spells. Prune to control size and shape after flowering. Feed a good quality slow release bloom boosting fertilizer annually in the Spring. Monitor for common plant problems and treat as necessary.
